All dogs listed here are available for adoption from Yorkie Rescue Houston.  Our goal is to ensure our rescued pets go to their forever home and never end up back in the system.  To that end, an application is required on all potential adopters.   Our adoption fee varies by dog.  We accept electronic funds via VENMO or Paypal, or cash only.

Puppies too young to be spayed/neutered are available for Foster-to-Adopt only.  A FTA contract is required.

Django was surrendered by his owner after he presented with poisoning symptoms.  He is suspected to have ingested Sago Palm.

Upon further review, it was more likely an ADVIL or other household poison.  Sago Palm dogs rarely survive and certainly not if the owner waits a week to seek treatment.

Django is VERY food motivated and came into rescue obese.  We have put him on a low fat diet and his adopter needs to understand he will need low fat food for life.

Also, adopter must NEVER attempt to take medications in Django's presence.  One small mishap and he will scarf it up and it may kill him.  Django must be confined to a secure area anytime medication is being taken or given.

He was treated at our primary veterinarian upon intake and transferred to Blue Pearl emergency hospital for overnight care.  Django was brought back to Primary vet and released the next day.

He is doing amazingly well.  He has rebounded and his appetite and energy have returned.  Django will stay on liver medications and diet for  4 weeks to help him heal.  Once he has good labs, we will schedule his neuter and make him available for adoption.

Django was tested and is a 'Cushing's Dog' He will require meds for the rest of his life.

His liver, however is completely healed and he is off all related medications.
