Moose2 needs a caretaker or foster! Won't you consider helping him get a new start?

All dogs listed here are available for adoption from Yorkie Rescue Houston.  Our goal is to ensure our rescued pets go to their forever home and never end up back in the system.  To that end, an application is required on all potential adopters.   Our adoption fee varies by dog.  We accept electronic funds via VENMO or Paypal, or cash only.

Puppies too young to be spayed/neutered are available for Foster-to-Adopt only.  A FTA contract is required.

BITE HISTORY - NO MEN, NO  KIDS

Moose was found running along the freeway.  Someone stopped to help him.  He was in grave danger!  The good Samaritan had no idea what to do, but he knew someone who loved dogs and could offer advice.  She took the dog in.  It became clear this boy was sick.  He had fever.  He was drooling.  He couldn't hear.  They surrendered him to us for help.  We got him to the vet,  Since we had no knowledge of his health or history, we ordered a full 'Senior Panel' for a comprehensive look into his blood chemistry and urinalysis.

intact (now neutered)

fecal negative for bacteria but + for Hookworms (treated)

bilateral ear infections cocci & rods (in treatment)

heavy tartar (dental complete)

skin infection (treated)

full series of vaccinations on board + pro-heart6 (heartworm prevention)

Once we got him home, he was fine for about 2 weeks, then, suddenly, he started displaying aggression toward both care givers.  We have tried to understand the trigger/cause.

His aggression is directed more toward the male than the female.  He has snapped/tried to bite and it seems to be related to 'barrier/territorial aggression' as this behavior is prevalent in the morning after being crated overnight when opening his kennel dog to allow him to go outside. However, it seems, when given a choice, he chooses to go into a kennel (with the door open) and spend his time alone.

We started him on 'Reconcile' (Doggie Prozac) to see if this helps.  We are hoping after his physical ailments resolve some of this unhappiness will also.

So.... his perfect home will be TESTOSTERON FREE.  No men in the home.  A strong female pack leader who has the command and respect of her pack. You will be required to sign a waiver indicating you are aware of his bite history and are taking him knowing this.
